DUST BREEDING

Dust Breeding

Dust BreedingSOMA Contemporary Gallery, 11th August, 6.30. Exhibition runs until the 18th of September.
Solo exhibition by Fiona Kelly. Fiona Kelly’s practice encompasses printmaking, drawing and sculptural installations and explores ideas of disposability and regeneration.
Kelly’s current work appropriates foraged waste and demolition material to compose sculptural proposals. Materially, the sculpture derives from the recycling process of rubblization (a method of transforming existing waste concrete to rubble and sand), while its form references the computer game TETRIS.TETRIS is a constructional game, whose object is to make an existing edifice disappear. Dust is moulded to an interconnected but contrasting hotchpotch where a unity of opposites collide, ambition and degradation, rejuvenation and disintegration, construction and demolition, past and future. The interaction between man and nature is played out through billboards, slide shows and organic elements in the interim.

Kelly’s work shadows and solidifies the constant migratory movement of dust, a material which has a myriad of meaning, form, mobility, and origin. The eloquence of the matters’ wanderings and metamorphosis, catalyse contemporary Artistic questioning, of time and landscape, in this fragmentary era of the Anthropocene.
