Award winning Waterford Musical Society proudly presents South Pacific.
Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war.
Nellie, a US Navy nurse, falls in love with a mature, French plantation owner Emile, whom the Navy wishes to employ as a scout for a dangerous mission to a nearby island. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, she struggles to accept his mixed-race children and refuses Emile’s proposal of marriage.
Meanwhile, out of the same fears that haunt Nellie, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself love with an innocent native girl, Liat.
When Emile is recruited to join Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe’s life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness and in doing so confronts and conquers her prejudices.
