Waterford Healing Arts Trust is very excited to announce that on May 1, 2, 3rd 2013 they will host a 3-day music residency entitled ‘Music in Hospitals – 7 years on’. This project will be an opportunity for Waterford based musicians Liam Merriman, Mary Prendergast and Leah Clark along with visiting musicians Ros Howley (Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester), Philippe Bouteloup (Music et Sante, Paris) and Kevin O’Shanahan (Music Alive, Cork) and Eamon Sweeney (Wicklow) to reunite 7 years after the hugely successful ‘Music in Hospitals’ project in 2006 to showcase and share how their work has progressed in this area in the intervening period.

During the 2006 project these musicians explored and proved the necessity of the presence of live music in particular areas of the hospital setting including Paediatrics, Renal Dialysis and Mental Health Settings. Our forthcoming residency during which the same principles will be celebrated will continue this work and endeavour to promote, discuss and demonstrate the healing power of music for people of all ages and conditions coping with difficult, painful and sometimes tedious hospital experiences.

As part of this there will be a public event in where audience members will have an opportunity to hear about how this pioneering work is impacting on clients, family members and staff of the hospital settings where they are based. This event will be an exciting learning and information sharing platform for anyone interested in the creative processes and challenges behind bringing music to the hospital setting. It will include a concert during which musicians will demonstrate playing styles and the methodologies used as part of this.

The public talk and concert will take place at 11am on Friday 3rd May in the Waterford Healing Arts Trust Centre for Arts and Health, Waterford Regional Hospital. Admission is free and places are limited so book now.

This is an Arts Council and Waterford City Council funded project.
