Central Library, Lady Lane This Saturday (19 March) at 3pm.
Waterford City and County Council Central Library, in Lady Lane will host the launch of We were There: 77 Women of the Easter Rising a book by Mary McAuliffe and Liz Gillis. The book will be launched by Erica Fay, the Chairperson of the Waterford Historical and Archaeological Society. This will be followed by a lecture with historian and author Mary McAuliffe.
Women played a pivotal role at the forefront of the Easter Rising. This new book outlines the unsung contributions of women to revolutionary activism by exploring the powerful ideologies of nationalism, socialism and feminism, which were driving the socio-political transformation of Ireland in the first decades of the 20th century.
Bhí ról lárnach ag mná in Éirí Amach na Cásca. Tugann an leabhar nua seo léargas ar dheonacháin nár aithníodh na mban i dtreo ghníomhaíochas réabhlóideach, ag féachaint ar na hidé-eolaíochtaí cumhachtacha – an náisiúnachas, an sóisialachas agus an feimineachas – a bhí taobh thiar de bhunathrú sochpholaitiúil chun feabhais na hÉireann sna deich bhlianta tosaigh den 20ú aois.
This is a free event, all are welcome and light refreshments will be served.
