Waterford Music is excited to welcome back internationally renowned pianist Michael McHale to the Large Room, City Hall, Waterford on THURSDAY 20th February at 7:30 pm. McHale has put together a beautiful programme especially for Waterford Music to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great Ludwig van Beethoven. He will play two of Beethoven’s best known piano sonatas together with music by later Romantic composers, and two short traditional pieces that he himself has arranged and recorded.

Belfast-born pianist Michael McHale has performed and recorded as a soloist with several orchestras including the Minnesota and Hallé Orchestras, the Moscow, Bournemouth, BBC Scottish, BBC and London Symphony Orchestras, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and all five of the major Irish orchestras. His discography of over twenty albums includes releases on Delos, Ergodos, Chandos and RTÉ lyric fm. The début album of the McGill/ McHale Trio ‘Portraits’ on Cedille featuring special narrations by Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali immediately entered the Top 25 US Billboard Classical Chart.
Michael studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, and his teachers and mentors include John O’Conor, Réamonn Keary, Christopher Elton, Ronan O’Hora and Barry Douglas. In 2018 Michael was invited to become a Patron of the Ulster Youth Orchestra, and in 2019 he became a part-time piano professor at the Cork School of Music.
