Garter Lane Arts Centre on Fri 6 Nov – Sat 21 Nov
This years art exhibition “Recent Work” is inspired by the world around us, elements within it and our emotional reaction to them. Each artist in the group using their own style and media to portray an inner response or physical interaction either by expressionism, abstraction or realism. The divergence in technique and style leads to an exhibition that has something to evoke most viewers. The opportunity for us as artists to prepare and show our work is very fulfilling, thus challenging us to keep moving forward to seeking new inspiration and techniques to help us grow in our artistic careers. A bonus is someone buying our artwork ensuing we have evoked them, which is a great achievement to us.
The Waterford Art Group is democratic, non-profit making organisation formed over fifty years ago by artists living in the Waterford and South Kilkenny area seeking a relaxed and tranquil space for artists of all levels to create, share and learn new skills. Since then the Waterford Art Group has been encouraging and inspiring local artists to produce high quality art work ever since. Presently, the members meet on a weekly basis during the school terms aiming to support individual artists and providing gateways for those seeking to express themselves creatively. During the summer months the members meet at various locations in Waterford to paint plein air, with a purpose to sketch, paint and gather material for future painting. It is the vision of the Waterford Art Group to identify and develop the highest standards of art practice, creating awareness and appreciation of visual arts to the greater community by exhibiting their artwork each year in Garter Lane Theatre Gallery.
