Tuesday April 23rd 2013 – Garter Lane Waterford

As part of the Japanese Film Festival

The Woodsman and the Rain (Club) Katsu – (Koji Yakusho from Shall We Dance?) – a 60 year-old lumberjack, lives in a small, tranquil village in the mountains. When a film crew suddenly arrives to shoot a zombie movie, Katsu finds himself roped into assisting the production and increasingly frustrated by the pushy crew, including the young, seemingly spineless Koichi.

As it turns out, Koichi (rising star Shun Oguri) is the movies, 25 year-old inexperienced director, struggling to handle the pressure on set and on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
An improbable friendship develops between Katsu and Koichi, as Katsu comes to see the joys of movies through the filmmaking process, while Koichi gradually recovers his sense of self through his interactions with Katsu. Soon, their bond paves the way for an unusual collaboration between the villagers and the film crew.
