The 2013 Sean Dunne Young Writers’ Awards ceremony takes place tonight in Greyfriars Municipal Gallery, Waterford. With doors opening at 7.00pm, guests will be treated to an exhibition by 2nd and 4th year W.I.T. Graphic Art students based on elements of Seán’s literature as well as with ideas for the branding of the Waterford Writers Weekend.
At 7.30 The Mayor of Waterford hosts the official ceremony which will also see Emily Gillmor Murphy give the keynote speech.
This years winners are Helen Flanagan for her short film screenplay The Debt, Conor Kelleher for his prose piece ‘I Heard You Laughing Yesterday’ and Aisling Finnegan for her prose piece ‘Memory Music’.
The Scoil Lorcain winners are Jason Carty Lacey, Eduard Ajeti and Leke Daniel
The Sean Dunne Young Writers Awards were initiated in Waterford in 1996 as a commemorative celebration for the journalist, poet and editor Seán Dunne who had passed away at the age of 39.
An initiative of Waterford City Council the annual Awards are for up and coming writers who are 30 years old or younger.
