Poetry Day Ireland is approaching on Thursday 27 April, and we have just launched some exciting new poetry competitions in partnership with our Poetry Day Ireland partners Butlers Chocolates and Fota Wildlife Park. There are categories for adults and children, and great prizes – so get writing!
Poetry Day Ireland and Fota Wildlife Park Poetry Trail Competition 2017
Budding young poets, how would you like to see your poem in print, or win a trip to the amazing Fota Wildlife Park for your school group?
Deadline: Friday 15 March 2017
Poetry Ireland and Fota Wildlife Park are offering children aged 5-12 a chance to win a trip to Fota Wildlife Park for their entire class, on Poetry Day Ireland, 27 April 2017. Winning poems will also appear on a special poetry trail map, which visitors to Fota can enjoy from the start of the Easter Holidays until 27 April. Four winning poems will be selected to appear alongside poems by famous poets on a special Poetry Trail Map of animal-themed poetry around Fota Wildlife Park. The trail map will be available to all visitors to Fota from 8 – 27 April 2017. The winning poet will win entry passes for their class group to Fota Wildlife Park on Poetry Day Ireland, Thursday 27 April. The visit will also include an animal-themed poetry workshop. The competition is designed for schools. However, individual children are also welcome to submit poems with the consent of a parent/guardian. Entries from individual children are not eligible to win the trip for their class to Fota, but are eligible for selection for the trail map.

Poetry Day Ireland and Butlers Poetry Competition
Deadline: Friday 24 March 2017
Poetry Ireland and Butlers Chocolate Cafés are inviting poets to submit poems for a special Poetry Day Ireland 2017 competition. The theme of the competition is open, but poems should mention either chocolate or coffee or give a flavour(!) of the coffeehouse and café. Poems should be no longer than 16 lines. The competition deadline is Friday 24 March 2017. Two winning poems will be printed on a Pocket Poem card for distribution in all 19 Butlers Chocolate Café branches on Poetry Day Ireland, 27 April 2017, and other prizes include a one-to-one poetry clinic with Colette Bryce at Poetry Ireland, tickets to all of the poetry events at a selection of literature festivals, a subscription to Poetry Ireland Review, and delicious boxes of Butlers Chocolates.

To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday 27 April 2017, Poetry Ireland and Butlers Chocolates are calling on young writers to write a poem inspired by chocolate or the Butlers Chocolate Experience for a very special poetry competition. If you’re aged between 5 and 12, then it’s time to get writing! Up to two winning poems will be printed on pocket-sized poem cards, which will be in all 19 Irish branches of Butlers Chocolate Cafés on Poetry Day Ireland this year. The overall lucky winner will also get a family pass for the Butlers Chocolate Experience plus a night in a family room for 4 people, including breakfast in The Croke Park, a gorgeous Doyle Collection hotel in Dublin’s City Centre. During your visit to the Butlers Chocolate Experience you’ll get to see how all the award winning, delicious chocolates are created at the Butlers Chocolate factory, before having a go at making some chocolate treats for yourself.
