Pilots, a choir with a difference, is looking for new members to come and enjoy singing with like-minded people.  Pilots provides opportunities for people involved in mental health in Waterford – service users, friends, family members and people who work in the service – to sing together, make new friends, have fun and learn new music.  Presented by Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) and the Occupational Therapy Department of the Waterford Mental Health Services, Pilots will meet at the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health, University Hospital Waterford, every Tuesday from 10th September and will continue for six weeks.

Pilots is led by the well-known choral director and musician Jane O’Brien Moran.  Jane has been performing for many years in a range of contexts and on national and international radio and TV.  She returned to studies in recent years, completing a degree in music at WIT in 2013, majoring in jazz vocal performance under Bridget Knowles.  Jane directs the Tramore Gospel Singers and the Passage East Singers, and is one of a team of artists who deliver Iontas, WHAT’s highly successful arts and mental health programme.

Announcing the call for new members for Pilots, Claire Meaney, Acting Arts Director of Waterford Healing Arts Trust, said “Pilots was set up earlier this year and is a really friendly and inclusive choir.  As many people know, there are lots of benefits to being part of a choir, both physical, psychological and social.  There’s the camaraderie of singing together, making new friends, learning new music and developing our voices.  If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, let us know.  Thanks to our funders, we’re thrilled to have this chance to welcome new members.”

Pilots is funded by the Arts Council, Waterford & Wexford Mental Health Services, the National Lottery and the Ireland Funds.
