PATRICK MORRISON RETROSPECTIVE AT GREYFRIARS

Greyfriars Municipal Gallery,October 16 to November 18

A major retrospective of the work of the late Patrick Morrison takes place in Greyfriars Municipal Gallery as parts of this year’s Imagine Arts Festival. Guest speaker at the opening was the internationally renowned artist Gottfried Helnwein.

The Irish Times described Morrison’s work as “cinematic…Ā “exceptionally fluent, even loquacious”.

Born in Cork city, Patrick Morrison spent the last forty years of his life in California where he was ensconced in the heady L.A. world of colour, glamour, and celebrity. His work is in numerous collections on both sides of the Atlantic.

His collectors include Ben Kingsley, Nick Nolte, Faye Dunaway, Dennis Hopper, Mick Jagger, George Lucas, and Dwight Yoakam, among others.

“I revel in the fact that in this age of technological innovation, the painter, armed with his paint and brushes, can engage in the same solitary drama as that engaged in by kindred souls all down the ages and back to the caves.” – Patrick Morrison, Dublin, 1995.
