Theatre Royal, Friday 13th September at 8 p.m. & tickets: €21/€19 conc.

Based on Emma Donoghue’s stage adaptation of her 1996 radio play Trespasses, the opera with a libretto by Renate Debrun is a fictionalization of the judge’s own account of the case of Florence Newton in Youghal – one of only a handful of witch trials that ever took place in Ireland. With a stellar cast of Irish talent, directed by Ben Barnes and the musicians of Crash Ensemble, Vagabones will be a culmination of great writing, superb theatre and thrilling music.

Opera Collective Ireland has ushered in a new era for opera production in Ireland. Putting Irish artists centre stage, their critically acclaimed productions have showcased young Irish singers who have subsequently gone on to perform on some of the most prominent opera stages of the world including  the Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Maggio Musicale Florence, the Teatro Real Madrid, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Oper Frankfurt and the Salzburg Festival.
