Healing Sounds on the Wards is a live music performance programme for and with patients of University Hospital Waterford (UHW).  The successful applicants will be trained and mentored to bring live music to the bedside of patients by musicians Liam Merriman and Eoin O Meachair.  Healing Sounds on the Wards is funded by the Arts Council and the National Lottery Good Causes Fund.

WHAT established the Healing Sounds programme in 2000 with the aim of reducing stress and anxiety for patients, staff and visitors of UHW through live music.

Liam Merriman and Eoin O Meachair, offer their skills, talent and knowledge to mentor other musicians in this important area.  Liam qualified as a trainer of hospital musicians with the pioneering organisation Musique et Santé in Paris, while Eoin has trained as a hospital musician with the highly regarded Kids Classics organisation and under Liam’s mentorship in the Healing Sounds programme.  Musicians do not need to have experience in music and health to apply for this programme, as it’s designed to train, mentor and support musicians each step of the way.  WHAT is looking for performing experience and a positive attitude.
