OPEN CALL FOR POET AND COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE

WHAT

The deadline for submission of applications is Thursday 12 April 2018.

In a new development for 2018, Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) has issued an open call to poets and composers to apply to be Artists-in-Residence at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) in 2018.  This is the first time for WHAT to bring together two art forms under its Artist-in-Residence programme.  This exciting new venture is being undertaken as part of the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The WHAT Artist-in-Residence programme is a means of engaging patients in contemporary arts practice and an opportunity for artists to develop their professional practice within an acute hospital context.  The scheme is funded by the Arts Council.

The purpose of the 2018 Artist Residency is two-fold: to collaborate with patients at UHW, and to create new works – poetry and music – to include a new choral work, inspired and informed by these collaborations and experiences, which will be part of the permanent legacy of the 25th anniversary celebrations.

Applications can be made in one of two ways: A joint application by a poet and composer who will work together for the period of the residency, or individual applications by poets/composers who are agreeable to being introduced to their counterpart by WHAT and to work together for the period of the residency.

The deadline for submission of applications is Thursday 12 April 2018.
