Following their sold out award winning production of Carousel last year, Waterford Musical Society returns with another Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Oklahoma.
Oklahoma is one of the most loved musicals of all time and was the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. It was the first musical to tell a story using music, dance and lyrics, the ‘Book Musical’ and is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams and a humorous secondary romance concerning cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancée, Ado Annie. With such timeless classics as the title song ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Oh what a beautiful morning’. ‘People will say we’re in love’ and the much loved ‘Oklahoma Ballet’ and many more this unmissable production is an absolute must for fans of classic musical theatre.
