MONUMENTALITY / FRAGILITY
This spring the National Design & Craft Gallery have a number of exciting events coming up, providing the opportunity to meet some of the Irish and international makers in the exhibition and to learn about their practice and techniques.
Monumentality / Fragility European Prize for Applied Art exhibition is presented across two major Kilkenny venues – Kilkenny Castle and the National Design & Craft Gallery in celebration of creativity and innovation in craft across Europe. In a time of discord, we are more than ever aware of our enduring connection as Europeans, and the importance of our shared heritage, cultural connections and contemporary collaborations. ADULT WORKSHOP – FELTED ARTEFACTS
THURS 25 APRIL, 2PM – 5PM, €35
Niki Collier will guide you in learning feltmaking techniques in response to her work on display in our current exhibition European Prize for Applied Arts. Everyone undertaking this hands on workshop, will take home their own handmade constructed textile artefact. No prior feltmaking experience needed.

MEET THE MAKERS: JULI BOLAÑOS DURMAN & NIKI COLLIER
THURS 25 APRIL 6.30PM FREE
Join Dublin based maker Niki Collier who works with constructed textiles and Edinburgh based designer Juli Bolaños Durman who works in mixed media and glass. Niki and Juli will reflect on the creative influences and development of their work as they consider and discuss materiality and process.

MEET THE MAKERS: EIMEAR CONYARD, ANNMARIE REINHOLD & ADI TOCH
THURSDAY 30 MAY 6.30PM FREE
Join three of the metalsmiths in our current exhibition Eimear Conyard, Annmarie Reinhold and Adi Toch. This engaging presentation explores the exhibitors processes and practice as they discuss the different stages of their careers and consider how their work relates to the exhibition theme Monumnetality / Fragility. At 7.30pm the audience members will be invited to view a demonstration on the ancient Keem-boo technique, in the DCCoI Jewellery & Goldsmithing workshop.
