Calling all art students and teachers- are you stressed about the DREADED Leaving Certificate? Don’t worry – Garter Lane Arts Centre has your Art History and Appreciation exam paper covered! Join us on Thursday 20th of April for an expert-led Art History & Appreciation Leaving Certificate Revision Day with Áine Andrews (Ni Chartaigh), author of the bestselling Less Stress More Success Art History.
Participants will benefit from a full day of expert advice on the Art History Leaving Cert paper, focusing on all aspects of the exam including the Irish Art, European Art and Appreciation Sections of the paper. It’s a great opportunity for both senior cycle students and teachers to gain insight from one of Ireland’s leading experts in the subject. Students will also have a guided tour of Garter Lane Arts Centre’s exhibitions, Celebration by Tom Molloy and Behind the Vitrolite Shopfront by Albert Walsh, in preparation for the Art Appreciation section of the paper which often asks students to discuss art exhibitions they have visited.
As Aoibhie McCarthy, Garter Lane Arts Centre Visual Arts & Outreach Manager, explains, ‘The Art History and Appreciation exam forms over a third of the overall grade for higher level Leaving Certificate art students so we’re delighted to welcome Áine Andrews to Garter Lane Arts Centre to support second level art students in Waterford by providing them with a comprehensive revision of this broad curriculum.’
Áine Andrews worked as an art teacher for over 25 years and is author of the bestselling Less Stress More Success Art History. She recently co- authored a new textbook Appreciating Art History for Leaving Cert with Aidan O’Sullivan for Gill and Macmillan. She was President of the Association of Art Teachers of Ireland and represented the Association on the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) art course committee to develop a new Leaving Cert Syllabus. In 2000 she was awarded a Schoolteacher Fellowship from Trinity College Dublin.
