The Japanese Film Festival Ireland returns for its 17th edition this April, bringing a selection of new and classic Japanese films to Waterford.
This year’s line-up in Garter Lane Arts Centre will include three film screenings from April 28th to 30th. JFF is Ireland’s only truly national film festival, with screenings also taking place in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Louth, Wicklow, Galway, Sligo, Mayo and Wexford.
Fresh from its extraordinary success at the Japanese Academy Film Prize ceremony in Tokyo – where it won ten awards, including Best Film – the epic kabuki theatre drama Kokuho will screen in Garter Lane, in conjunction with Waterford Film For All, on Tuesday April 28th.
Waterford audiences will also have a chance to catch The Curse – a welcome throw-back to J-horror films such as Ringu – as well as an opportunity to see the beloved anime classic Akira on the big screen.
