Waterford city and county comes alive for Culture Night, with free events taking place from 4pm today and continuing well into the night. From music, theatre and visual art to storytelling, heritage, dance and community events, there is something happening across Waterford throughout the day and evening.
Organised by the Culture Night Waterford team on behalf of Waterford City and County Council Arts Office, this year’s programme brings together artists, arts organisations, community groups and venues from across the city and county.
- In Waterford City, the Apple Market will be one of the main hubs for the night, with live entertainment on stage from 6pm to 9pm. Just a short walk away, the Waterford Cultural Quarter will be busy throughout the evening.
- Garter Lane will open its studios to the public, while Waterford Gallery of Art will host a portrait drop-in alongside Trust Artists Unconditionally, an exhibition looking back at public art in Waterford during the 1990s.
- GOMA Gallery of Modern Art celebrates its tenth anniversary with a special late opening, while the Theatre Royal hosts a Music Generation takeover before two late-night events continue into the small hours.
- Imagine Arts Festival will also use Culture Night to launch its landmark 25th anniversary year with an event on Bank Lane.
- Culture Night will even take to the streets, with Bus Éireann’s Music and Poetry in Motion bringing live music and spoken word onto city bus routes.
And Culture Night is certainly not confined to Waterford City.
- Across the county, audiences can enjoy rehearsed readings of Martina Teeny Collender’s Lucky Strike in Kilmacthomas and Mahon Bridge, a local talent show in Tournore, storytelling and song in An Sean Phobal, and walking and photography events in Dunmore East. In An Rinn, music and dancing will continue late into the night.
- Dungarvan will have its own busy programme, including Culture Night Lights and an evening of music and welcome at the Old Market House Arts Centre.

Mayor of Waterford Metropolitan District, Cllr. Lola O’Sullivan, said “There is something special about Culture Night in Waterford. It connects people and communities through music, poetry, art and creativity, and this year is no exception. “Whether it’s getting a sneak peek behind the scenes of Spraoi Studios, enjoying spoken word in Waterford’s Cultural Quarter or experiencing music and poetry in motion on public transport, Culture Night has something for everyone.
“Waterford’s arts and cultural organisations, the Arts Office and Waterford City and County Council’s Arts Officers have put together a programme that celebrates our richness and diversity, so I would encourage everyone to get out and enjoy Culture Night across Waterford city and county.”
