‘Generation Art’ is Waterford City Council’s intergenerational programme in partnership between Animated State Dance Company.
It is a multi disciplinary arts project with a group comprising older people in the community and early school leavers. The object is to explore the arts for use as a vehicle for personal reflection and social interaction to lead to an enriched understanding of each other’s lives past and present.
As both these groups within society can at times feel isolated or marginalised, this initiative will offer a focus and a sense of group responsibility. ‘Generation Art’ will facilitate participation in creative processes in a supportive environment that will help to build self-confidence and self-esteem.
The culmination of the programme is a multi disciplinary arts exhibition that will run in tandem with a live cabaret style public performance of dance and theatre during Positive Ageing Week in September 2013.
