Following last year’s stunning set at Imagine Arts Festival, English folk duo, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker return to play a Subterranean Sounds gig at Phil Grimes Pub.
Their recent album, Overnight, released on Rough Trade Records, has garnered five star reviews in the music press. Josienne’s voice has been compared to that of Sandy Denny and Joni Mitchell and can find the nuance in the simplest phrase and send it, effortlessly, straight to your heart. Accompanied by Ben Walker’s versatile guitar playing, their songs excel in the live setting. The songs are melancholic and melodic; and as anyone who saw them at Imagine Arts Festival will testify, when heard live will stay long after the last notes fade,
The evening is enhanced with an opening set by Patrick M Barrett (Ten Speed Racer, Hedge Schools). Hedge Schools’ ‘At The End of a Winding Day’ is ‘an album of understated beauty’ according to Paul McLoone.
