HOSPITAL PROGRAMME

Waterford City Council’s Hospital Programme 2013 is a partnership with Waterford Healing Arts Trust and takes place in Waterford’s Regional Hospital, at Ardkeen.

Healing Sounds is a participatory music programme for patients, visitors and staff of Waterford Regional Hospital, the Waterford Mental Health Services and the wider community. Performances are given in the various wards and also in the Foyer of the hospital by a panel of musicians that are trained in-house for the purpose. Musicians this year include Peter Volger, Sharon Moore, Joe Harney and Jordan’s Rigout which consists of Nick Banks, Lorcan Reidy, Eadaoin Walsh and Robert Doherty.

The programme also covers the ‘Music in Hospitals – 7 years on’ a 3-day music residency starting May 1st in which representatives of arts and health organisations from Ireland, France and UK, will come together to deliver a programme of music workshops, public talks and concerts to encourage research, training and sharing of knowledge in the area of music in medicinal settings. Local musicians for this include Liam Merriman, Mary Prendergast and Leah Clark who will work alongside Ros Howley (Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester), Philippe Bouteloup (Music et Sante, Paris) and Kevin O’Shanahan (Music Alive, Cork)
