HIVE WINTERPORT EXHIBITION, MICHAEL STREET
Hive Emerging presented its first annual Christmas arts fair featuring local, national & international arts, craft, music, design & more.
The fair featured 12 days of Christmas until the 21st of December, opening weekly Tuesday to Saturday. The title Winterport makes reference to the City of Waterford’s original name as it represented a haven during the harsh winter months. Hive’s ambition is to create a cultural Haven for the City during December. Hive is an independent artist led initiative, utilising the former News & Star headquarter for the provision of requisite facilities dedicated to the emerging arts & start up creative producers. Run by artists for artists, Hive focuses predominately on group activities which competently provide artists with exposure, experience, networking, accreditation & sales. Hive aims to establish a central platform for the coherent promotion & documentation of the emerging arts, aimed at consolidating the many disparate voices into one.
Hive is now located on the corner of Michael Street & New Street, the border between the retail & entertainment centres of the City. Subsequently the arts venue benefits from unparalleled footfall both day & night & is due to become the hub for new creative endeavour.
