Waterford City & County Council's Arts resource site
Greyfriars Municipal Art Gallery is situated in a former Methodist church that dates from the mid-nineteenth century. It is situated on Greyfriars Street in the heart of the Viking Triangle, and close to Reginald’s Tower, the Medieval Museum, and Christ Church Cathedral.
Greyfriars primarily hosts exhibitions of selected artworks from the Waterford Municipal Art Collection. The collection contains over four hundred artworks by some of Ireland’s leading 20th century painters e.g. Jack B.Yeats, Paul Henry, Evie Hone, and Louis LeBrocquy, and contemporary artists such as Hughie O’Donoghue, Donald Teskey and Breda Lynch. Greyfriars Gallery occasionally hosts contemporary art, music, poetry and literature events, and participates in the Waterford Imagine Arts Festival each October.
With it’s excellent location, atmospheric ambiance, audio-visual technical facilities and generous wall space, Greyfriars is currently the premier venue for visual art in Waterford city.
