GOMA Gallery of Modern Art Waterford is delighted to announce the details of part two of our upcoming graduate exhibition featuring three very talented artists showcasing a dazzling array of creativity and ingenuity across multiple artistic disciplines.
Each year GOMA awards selected recent graduates in Ireland with an exhibition. This year graduates of Waterford Institute of Technology, Crawford College of Art and Design and Limerick School of Art and Design will exhibit in the gallery, highlighting the wealth of talent graduating annually.
The exhibition titled “I Dwell in the City and the City Dwells in Me” showcases the work of three emerging artists from across a range of disciplines. The diversity of practice on show combined with a variety of methodologies creates interesting tensions for the viewer.

Muireann Kelleher
Muireann focuses on drawing and mark-making, building mechanisms that impact and interrupt creative processes while creating drawings that reflect the nature of their making. By deploying forces that affect the momentum of drawing Muireann explores key factors such as weight, gravity, and kinetics by restricting her control over the mark-making and introducing elements of chance, spontaneity, and freedom of movement.
She is interested in how the drawings produced through these methods convey a sense of the unpredictable nature of interpersonal relationships and how both positive and negative experiences, directly and indirectly, affect us in ways that are often outside of our control.
Phoebe McDonogh
“I Dwell in the City and the City Dwells in Me” is a sculptural installation comprised of ordinary construction materials paired with elements that are considered out of the ordinary in this practice. Scaffolding is used as a permanent structure in this installation, hinting that the installation may be unfinished or that the piece is waiting for something greater to happen; however, with this sculpture nothing is intended to be fully constructed. This framework is used as a support and display mechanism for other constructed sculptural pieces and becomes a barrier to things contained. Through the use of scale and colour it creates both positive and negative space which also feeds off the room it is housed in by wrapping around pre-existing parts of the building and reflecting areas of the building which would usually go unnoticed. Within and alongside the scaffolding, rebar is left exposed and functionless, different types of lightweight concrete structures and processes have been explored, manifested and revealed. “I Dwell in the City and the City Dwells in Me” is a personal exploration of the experience of industrial time within the architecture of urban life.
Roisin Everard
“I abstract the mundane to capture a fleeting moment. Photographing dark, cavernous, domestic spaces I attempt to engulf myself in this physical atmosphere I create. By playing with the viewpoint of the external around me everything fades out of focus and my self-awareness as a single being is brought to the forefront.”
