An unflappable free spirit (Kevin Azais, casually charismatic) and a driven survivalist (Adele Haenel) make for the unlikeliest of lovers in Thomas Cailley’s wonderfully oddball comedy. Arnaud seems destined for an uneventful summer toiling in his family’s woodcutting factory when he gets, quite literally, romantically entangled with the physically imposing Madeleine during an impromptu wrestling match at the beach. Caught in her thrall as she prepares for the end of days through a gruelling regimen of running, swimming and fighting, he ends up rashly tagging along when she enlists in a two-week paramilitary boot camp. Paintball pellets stand in for Cupid’s arrows as their fledgling romance is put through the paces. It seems that sometimes love comes down to survival of the fittest.
