Central Arts – June 15th at 8pm
GALETONES is a new collaboration between Waterford contemporary dancer Rachel Sweeney and Cuban vocalist and performer Guillermo Luis Horta Betancourt.
This dynamic choreographic fusion experiments with Celtic and Cuban rhythmic patterns through an exploration of integrated vocal and movement techniques.
The costumes, made from recycled waste, form part of the soundscape as well as the choreography. This experimental performance uses themes of embodiment and resonance, found within the vibrational and sonic qualities that emerge through the interplay between textured object, scenic costume and vocal projection.
Rachel Sweeney is a Butoh dancer and experimental vocalist with a history of site-based practice, in particular in relation to digital sound and movement and also working with object/prop manipulation to access distinct movement and sonic states.
Guillermo Luis Horta Betancourt is a Cuban vocal performer with a background in experimental theatre and critical costume/sceneography, whose work often resides in the play between textured choreography and sound production using felt objects and their resonant qualities.
