‘Cavalry’ is a show of new paintings and drawings by artist John Conway. Each work portrays a group of riders or cavalry. These riders are harbingers bringing with them visions and associations for the viewer to decipher. Some are charging, some are floating but all of them are telling us something about the future and what is coming. We all have a growing fear of where the future is taking us. The recession in this country has continued for longer than expected. It has brought an ever growing despondency and disbelief in the political process. Maybe it’s time to call the Cavalry?

John Conway is an artist based in Dublin but originally from Sligo. In 2011 he graduated from Visual Arts Practice at IADT Dun Laoghaire. His artistic practice is mainly focused on drawing and painting. His work has recently appeared at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre Christmas Show (2012), He tells of the Perfect Beauty, Hawk’s Well Theatre’s 30th Birthday Exhibition in Sligo (2012), the RDS Student Art Awards at the RDS & Farmleigh Gallery (2011) and Wings at Waterford City Library (2010) as part of Imagine Arts Festival.
