EXHIBITING IN GARTER LANE…

John O ReganGarter Lane Arts Centre is delighted to announce two exhibitions, in the main gallery ‘tenmileradius’ by Waterford born artist John O Regan and ‘From the Studios’ featuring Garter Lanes current studio artists in the FOH Space.

‘tenmileradius’ is a features a series of new landscapes by John, painted as the name suggests within a 10 mile radius of his home in Maree Oranmore Galway.

John explains; “I paint. That’s what I do. I don’t write about it because that constitutes a different form of expression. So here on the walls is my offering. It aint ‘high art’, it’s what I like to do. It involves me being outdoors and involving myself with the subject. But mostly it’s painting engaged in dialogue with itself. It’s art coming from art coming from art. Each painting must create its own autonomous world and be a manifestation of a set of rules unique to itself. It is answerable to nobody and nothing but itself. This exhibition is merely a station on a longer journey as each painting, each brushstroke, suggests a whole new range of possibilities, just as it is eliminating others. It’s a world of paint and it’s a challenging, dynamic and fascinating place to be.”

Also opening is, ‘From the Studios’, an exhibition of new work by the current Garter Lane Studio Artists in the FOH Space featuring Mailo Power, Sarah Hassett, Louise Flynn, Denise McAuliffe and Sharon Fleming. The exhibition presents a range art forms and media illustrating the diversity of each artist in the group. FOH Space is an innovative project that showcases originality and experimentation and is kindly supported by AIB Waterford.
