Guests arriving at GOMA for the launch of de/Construction Site on July 28th will be greeted by the pile of materials that artists Julie Cusack & Clare Scott, aka The Assemblage of Two, will use in the creation of an unplanned installation of artwork to be completed during the first two weeks of August. Using recycled wood, paper, board, old paintings, the artists will deconstruct and attempt to reassemble their respective practices of painting and installation. The nominally finished work will be on display for the last week of this three-week experiment. Julie Cusack
Julie studied Visual Education at South East Technological University (SETU) and Galway Mayo Institute of Technology. She has been practicing and teaching drawing and painting for 15 years in a wide variety of contexts. Working on paper, wood and canvas she creates layered, abstract paintings rooted in drawing, a tool she not only uses as representative but as a way to engage in the intuitive physicality of making marks on a surface.

Clare Scott
As an exhibiting painter with experience in stage and film design, Clare returned to college to reframe her practice and to address conflicts between the process of making art and the art market. With a degree in Visual Arts from South East Technological University (SETU) and an MA in Art & process from CIT Crawford in Cork, she turned to exploring materials and media through temporary, large-scale, sculptural installations which remain rooted in painting.
