Ireland will assume the Presidency of the European Union in July 2026 until December 2026.  A key element of this Presidency is the delivery of a culture programme across Ireland and the EU Member States.  Delivered by Culture Ireland, the culture programme is the most citizen-facing and public element of the Presidency and offers an opportunity to showcase the best of Irish arts and culture, both traditional and contemporary.

Each county is “paired” with a specific Member State of the EU for the period of the Presidency. Waterford is pleased to be paired with Denmark.

The Arts Office, Waterford City & County Council now seeks expressions of interest from writers based within it’s administrative area to produce a literary response to the connection between the rich folklore of both countries and shared Norse roots.

Waterford. The closing date is Friday 10th July 2026 at 12 noon. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their response and may be required to give further information.
