The Arts Department of Wexford County Council in partnership with Wexford Arts Centre are hosting Brian Maguire’s exhibition ‘War Changes Its Address: The Aleppo Paintings’, the opening of which is on Friday 26th October at 5pm followed by the opening reception of Giath Taha’s photographic exhibition ‘Another Day in Aleppo’, at 7pm at Kamera 8 Gallery, 5 Rowe Street, Wexford.
As one of Ireland’s most esteemed visual Artists, Brian Maguire has distinguished himself through his socially and politically engaged career and artistic practice. This exhibition grew from Maguire’s own experience of the aftermath in Aleppo and developed in response to the refugee crises which has arisen because of this conflict. In association with ‘War Changes Its Address: The Aleppo Paintings’, Syrian photojournalist Giath Taha will present ‘Another Day in Aleppo’, a selection of his photographic work in Kamera 8 Gallery in Wexford town. Exploring the complexities and human cost of civil conflict, Taha’s work is both harrowing and poignant. Focusing intimately on those attempting to survive through unimaginable violence and anguish in the destroyed shell of their home, this exhibition allows the public to see through their eyes.
A talk by both artists will be given on Saturday 27th October at 4pm in Kamera 8 Gallery.
