This course takes its lead from the Old Masters. Students will work directly from the posed life model and taken through a step by step approach to drawing classically using dry media.

Life drawing is fundamental and crucial if one is interested in painting in a realist fashion. The first day will be spent drawing the full posed figure and gaining insight into capturing the gesture and describing the distribution of weight in each pose. This will lead us into describing the three-dimensional quality in the drawing and laying in the major gray values that enhance the form.

The final day will be spent in painting in oils using a limited flesh palette. Modeling forms, rendering values, edges, composition, anatomy, distribution of weight and creating depth will all be demonstrated and practiced whilst in front of the Life Model. This exciting class in drawing and painting the figure will be a great crash course for both the beginner and more advanced student and for enhancing students individual skills.

Please note, cost does not include accommodation. Artform also provides an artist accommodation package. Details on art materials will be provided after signing up to the course. The course takes place in Artform modern light-filled seaside studio with 24 hour access for each visiting artist.
