Michael Hanna: Short Films about Learning
St Carthage Hall, Chapel street, Lismore– launch Saturday 3 June at 4pm. All welcome.
In spring 2015 Belfast Exposed commissioned a programme of archive-themed exhibitions and events produced in response to its collection of community photography. ‘Short Films about Learning’ is a single channel video installation which juxtaposes a selection of images taken from the Belfast Exposed archive with excerpts from a lecture series entitled introduction to ‘Psychology’ by Paul Bloom, a professor at Yale University. The work invites the viewer to consider the images, and the subjects they represent, as a series of codes, patterns of learned behaviours and universal tendencies.
Lismore Castle Arts – Open every day until 15 October 2017
We are delighted to present a solo exhibition by Anthony McCall, bringing together seminal early works such as ‘Line Describing a cone’ (1973), alongside complex new works such as ‘Swell’ (2016). This is Anthony McCall’s first solo exhibition in Ireland and represents a rare opportunity to see this important and groundbreaking new work.
The exhibition will be accompanied later in the summer by a fully illustrated catalogue, featuring installation images of the exhibition at Lismore.
Opera at Lismore Castle: L’Elisir d’Amore
Lismore Castle, stable yard – 2 & 3 June.
Ireland’s only summer opera festival, The Lismore Opera Festival presents two performances of L’elisir d’amore by Donizetti. It combines touching romance and hilarious comedy with beautiful music, including Nemorino’s enchanting aria ‘Una furtive lagrima’. The opera’s premiere in Milan in 1832 was a triumph and secured Donizetti’s place as one of the leading opera composers of his day.
Tickets, dining and hospitality options are booked directly through Lismore Opera Festival www.lismoreoperafestival.com
