U.H.W., Friday 20th September between 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) will celebrate Culture Night 2019 by bringing live music on to the wards of UHW on the evening of Friday 20 September between 7pm-8.30pm. This special acoustic session will be provided by WHAT’s Healing Sounds on the Wards team of musicians Liam Merriman, Eoin O Meachair, Alan Browne, Michelle Haberlin and Liam Kavanagh.
Culture Night is a national celebration of arts, heritage and culture which sees venues and public spaces all over Ireland presenting free events to encourage more people to engage with the arts. Claire Meaney, Acting Arts Director of Waterford Healing Arts Trust, explains the organisation’s involvement: “A few years ago it struck us that Culture Night is a fantastic initiative, but patients and staff on duty at the hospital miss out because they can’t access all the free events on offer around Waterford and further afield. The obvious solution from our point of view was to bring Culture Night in, via our Healing Sounds on the Wards programme. The beautiful music provided by our musicians, who are all trained to work in healthcare settings, helps to lift people’s spirits and transforms the atmosphere on the wards, bringing a little normality back to people’s lives. Culture Night on the Wards has become a very special event in our calendar year, so we’re really looking forward to Friday 20 September”.
