Based on Bill Bryson’s best-selling 1998 memoir, A Walk in the Woods is a gentle comedy that combines breath-taking scenery with the charming chemistry of its two veteran stars.
After two decades of living in the UK, renowned travel writer Bill Bryson (Robert Redford) returns to America with his English wife Cathy (Emma Thompson). In an attempt to find a way to reconnect with his homeland, he impulsively decides to hike the Appalachian Trail, a trek of over 2,000 miles stretching from Maine to Georgia. With Cathy protesting against the idea of Bill doing the trip solo, an out-of-the-blue call from old friend Katz (Nick Nolte), offering to accompany him, seems like the perfect solution. But as their journey unfolds, this odd couple realise that they may have underestimated the scale of the adventure they have undertaken.

Trevor Knight and Honor Heffernan are delighted to present a new show, The Whistling Girl, featuring musical settings of the poetry of the great Dorothy Parker.

A new show presented by renowned vocalist Honor Heffernan and composer Trevor Knight featuring music inspired by the works of the poet and satirist, Dorothy Parker, creating a darkly sardonic body of work in which the American wit and critic’s poetry is transported into the 21st century and given a sonic face-lift fusing ‘dirty’-cabaret, electronic-vaudeville, rock and jazz, combined with underscored original recordings of Parker’s voice.
A band of top Irish musicians including Garvan Gallagher/bass, Tom Jamieson/drums, Ed Deane/guitar and Trevor Knight/keyboards, will be fronted by internationally acclaimed vocalist and actress Honor Heffernan.

To celebrate Africa Day, Garter Lane Arts Centre and Waterford One World Centre will screen Zafara, a gorgeous French animation from writer-director Rémi Bezançon.
A delightful animated film about the story of Maki, a young boy who escapes from slave traders to go on an epic voyage from Africa to France – befriending a giraffe, crossing the desert and meeting a pirate on his way. Under a baobab tree, an old man tells of the everlasting friendship between Maki and Zarafa, the orphaned giraffe who was a gift from Pasha of Egypt to the King of France. During their long journey from Sudan to Paris – travelling through Alexandria, Marseille and across the snowy Alps – they will live a thousand adventures. A charming and very touching animated adventure that will appeal to young explorers everywhere.
All bookings will be coordinated by Waterford One World Centre. Africa Day, designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continent’s unity, falls on 25th May each year, with celebrations across the globe.

Director Nicholas Hytner and writer Alan Bennett, whose award-winning collaborations have included both the theatrical staging and the screen adaptations of The Madness of King George and The History Boys, return for this witty and insightful adaptation of Bennett’s play.
It’s the late 1960s and Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings) has just moved to leafy Gloucester Crescent in Camden. No sooner has he arrived than he encounters Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), a destitute and irascible lady of an indeterminate age who resides in her van up the street. When she outstays her welcome with the neighbours, Bennett takes pity on her and allows her to park the van in his driveway, not realising that she will remain there until her death 15 years later.

In celebration of the recent unprecedented and historic victory in the European Court of Rights by the former Waterford crystal workers to secure their pension entitlements, All of a Sudden Theatre Company is proud to announce the return of The Glass.
A hilarious and poignant romp, The Glass tells the story of a motley crew of workers, and their shenanigans inside and indeed outside the hallowed walls of one of the most famous factories in the world, Waterford Crystal.
Written and directed by Paul Barry and starring Waterford’s finest actors, the play had two sold-out runs in 2011 at Garter Lane and the Theatre Royal. It received rave reviews from critics in the local newspapers and went on to win several awards in the end of year reviews including Best Play, Best New Play and Best Set. With a strictly limited run, tickets will again sell like hot cakes, particularly as they include a complimentary pre-show drink. Contains strong language.
