The Opera 2018: presenting Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri.
This year, Artistic Director, Dieter Kaegi, is delighted to have programmed Rossini’s tale of intrigue, comedic mischance, and the triumph of love – and of strong women! L’Italiana in Algeri was premiered in Venice in 1813, and has been delighting audiences for more than 200 years.
Fusing sustained energy, with elegant melodies, the opera tells the tale of Elvira and Isabella, who must together make a plan to ensure that love will conquer all. Elvira loves Mustafa, and Isabella loves Lindoro, and it wouldn’t be a Rossini opera if the path to happiness was smooth. Expect wonderful music along the way to the final rousing resolution.

The Recital Series
The Recitals Series bring music to the Great Houses of the Blackwater Valley. Enjoy the wonderful gardens, and experience these elegant and historic homes while listening to beautiful music. Concerts in St Carthage’s Cathedral, Villierstown Church and Dromore Yard, a restored romantic eighteenth century farmhouse, are also part of this year’s programme, and we are delighted to announce a new element to the programme: a talk by Peter Murray at Lismore’s Red Hall.Check the website for discounts and dining offers too.
