Thursday 11^th

7.30pm, ‘Hive Emerging’, Michael Street ~ Avenue Festival Launch: The Mayor of Waterford Cllr. John Cummins officially launches The Avenue Festival as well as officially opening ‘Hive Emerging’s new premises at 25 Michael Street (former News & Star building). Hive’s inaugural show is ‘Wet’ comprising of works which define new Irish emerging art. Artists include Alison Cronin,  Anna Westlake, Barry Foley, Conor O’Grady, Damien Magee, David Turner, ElsBorghart, Emma Berkery, Keith Flynn, Sarah Edmondson, Julie Gill, Kerrie O’Mahony, Gerry Davis and Kate-Bowe O’Brien.

9.00pm, ‘Hive Emerging’, Michael Street ~ ‘Substance’: 6 eclectic DJ/Producers covering a wide genre of electronic grooves.

Friday 12^th

5.00pm, John Roberts Square ~ Gig Keywest: One of Ireland’s most interesting bands playing live in Waterford’s historic square.

7.00pm, ‘Hive Emerging’, Michael Street ~ Municipal Collection Walking Tour: A walking tour of Municipal Art led by local artist Christine O’Brien Shanahan.

3.30pm, Greyfriars’ Abbey, Greyfriars’ Street ~ Opening of Leonie Tang’s ‘Be Obscured’ Photography Installation: Bringing Ireland’s largest mobile Pinhole Camera (housed in a yurt) to Waterford, artist Leonie Tang’s installation will educate and inform even the stranger to the photographic practice. 6.00pm, Michael Street ~ ‘Music on Michael Street’: A selection of Irish independent music and street performers on this famous Waterford thoroughfare.

8.00pm, ‘Hive Emerging’, Michael Street ~ Preview SAWFEST: A sonic glimpse of Waterford’s Electronic music festival which will take place in September.

10.00pm, Revolution’s Basement Bar, John Street ~ Gig ‘When Good Pets Go Bad’ and ‘The Northern Drones’: In association with Alliance Promotions presented by Dig, the Cork City four piece and the Dublin three piece blending off kilter pop with raucous psychedelic noise. (051 844444)

5.00pm, Greyfriars’ Gallery ~ A Citywide Solo view of Artist Darragh Lyons (walking tour): Starting at Greyfriars and then on to the various places where Darragh Lyons is exhibiting.

6.00pm, Index Gallery, Central Library, Lady Lane ~ Opening 20Ten ‘A Summer Collection’: Officially opened by the Mayor Waterford Cllr. John Cummins curated by Conor Rush and Chris O’Brien Shanahan 20Ten features the work of: Pat Carri, Kevin Connolly, Róisín Kinsella, Darragh Lyons, Pat McArdle, MiliaTsaoussis-Maddock as well as Chris O’Brien Shanahan and Conor Rush.
