ARTS OPPORTUNITY – A BETTER PLACE @WHAT

Closing date for proposals is Monday, 27th September 2021 at 5pm

Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) has announced an open call to artists based in Ireland to submit proposals for its A Better Place exhibition, which takes place at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) later this year. This annual exhibition aims to make UHW ‘a better place’ for all – patients, visitors and staff – by displaying original, uplifting artworks. Further details are available from www.waterfordhealingarts.com or 051 842664. The closing date for proposals is Monday, 27 September at 5pm, the successful artist will be announced in October and the exhibition will take place in December. A Better Place is generously supported by the Arts Council.

Now in its sixth year, A Better Place is a unique opportunity for an artist to have their work shown at UHW. Artists are invited to submit two samples of their work to be considered and voted on for a full solo exhibition. These samples will be collated into a video which will be circulated online amongst UHW staff for voting, and from which one artist will be chosen. Artists are not identified during the selection process.

Announcing details of the Open Call, Director of WHAT, Claire Meaney, said: “Now more than ever we need beautiful contemporary art across the hospital. A Better Place aims to enliven the hospital’s corridors by bringing new artworks to the space for patients, staff and visitors to experience”. Claire went on to explain “However, as always, the artists will not be revealed until after the voting has been completed, which means the artworks are viewed and voted upon for their own merit”.
