The Council is working to get the 2017 Arts Practise Grants online for late January. If all goes well the 2017 process will open on January 27 with a deadline of February 20th at 4pm. Following governance checks and adjudication the intention is to put the grants before the Council at the March Plenary meeting of the Council on the 9th.
Applications are open for Artlinks bursaries until January 30th.

REVISED COLLABORATION & YOUTH INCLUSION GRANTS
Applicants for the Professional Creative Collaboration Production grant and the Youth Social Inclusion Arts programme grant are invited to reapply with new or reworked proposals. This follows the workshops held on May 19th in Greyfriars, Waterford.

Professional Creative Collaboration Production
This grant is for a multidiscipline collaboration between a number of organisations leading to a unique special event or programme that could otherwise not be realised. It is for new creative products that are born from collaboration as opposed to a product that would generally be “business as usual” for a single organisation’s (e.g. a play or a film). While the grant will be awarded for a unique proposal, due cognisance will be given to programmes that lead to self-sustainability.
A good example of a multidiscipline collaboration between a number of organisations leading to a unique special event/programme was “Waterford Sings” (a collaberation between massed choirs, composers, poets and a major event).
Waterford City & County Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.

Youth Social Inclusion Arts Programme
This programme is largely aimed at disadvantaged youth and early school leavers. The City & County Council is interested in approaches made with other partners on-board. The programme could follow a narrative style, possibly along the lines of a social history project. The programme must be fully documented and culminate in a film, a performance or a documented exploration and exhibition. As this is part of a coordinated youth programme, the application must also detail a section that deals with, or explains, the depth and context of the arts in everyday life. Preference will be given to a programme that covers as much of the county as possible. The Council understands that this grant is only one part of a package needed to support such a venture.

Waterford City & County Council Arts Practice and Venue Grants 2016
Waterford City & County Council awarded conditional Arts Grants for 27 projects at the April 14th Waterford Plenary meeting. The Council also recommended that for two of the categories, that weren’t awarded, workshops are convened for the specific applicants (details to be announced later). Those applicants are then invited to re-submit stronger applications or new applications for adjudication.
A venue grant for six organisations was also passed.
The Arts Service is now writing to all applicants with details and feed-back. Successful applicants will also receive terms & conditions for drawing down their grants.

The Arts Service of Waterford City & County Council has announced a suite of bursaries which are available to artists in all disciplines from Waterford.
- Applications are currently open to attend The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, the artists’ workplace in County Monaghan during 2016. Artists can avail of residential stays during 2016 to work on specific artistic projects. TGC Guidelines & Application form
- The 51st annual residential Drama League of Ireland Summer School takes place at the University of Limerick from the 23rd to 30th July 2016 which a wide range of courses available to Waterford drama practitioners. DLI Guidelines & Application form

- The Arts Office is offering Waterford Writers’ the opportunity to attend the Molly Keane Writers Retreat Week in Ardmore, Co. Waterford. Waterford City & County Council Arts Grants
Waterford City and County Council has allocated significant funding for the provision of Arts Practice, Arts Audience Development and Arts Venues Grants as part of its support for the development of the arts in the City and County in 2016.
Practice, Audience and Venue grants are processed through a competitive process. Application forms are available online from 23rd December, 2015, with a closing date of Friday 29th January, 2016 at 4pm.
The Arts Practice and Arts Audience grants structure complies with Section 6 of the 2003 Arts Act. These grants are for funding towards arts projects and programmes which are complementary to the following objectives:
- Stimulating public interest in the Arts
- Promoting knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts, or
- Improving standards in the arts
In the Act, the arts are defined as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry, the fine arts and applied arts generally.

Waterford City & County Council invites applications under the following programmes:
Arts Practice
These grants are for the purpose of animating our County with great programmes, events and performances. With the exception of the Arts in Health /Arts & Disability programme, all these grants are for projects that the public can attend. They must all be of a high standard and employ/utilise local professional talent and services.
Please note that the Professional theatre / Performance Production grant is on hold as we evaluate new criteria.
New Play & Producer Grants
This is a new scheme that replaces the Professional Theatre Performance Production Grant. It is based on two tenets
- To build up a new cannon of South East plays
- To enable and empower South East playwrights and to encourage new local theatre producers
Waterford City & County Council invites applicants to submit new narrative based plays with plans for their production. The Council will award three grants of up to €3,000 each for the writing, rehearsed reading and a budget controlled proposal for six performances of the play. Plays should be based in, or cover issues pertinent to Waterford or the Southeast. Plays written in Irish are welcome. We see this as a partnership between a Playwright and a Producer and Waterford City & County Council with the hope of encouraging outside finances.
As this is a replacement for the Professional Theatre Performance Production Grant, it is not intended for Amateur Theatre groups, Musical Theatre groups/companies or Venues. That said, the Writer/Producer teams may obviously engage with one or possibly all groups mentioned above when formulating their proposal.
This is a two part process. At this stage applicants must submit either a draft of a new work of between 45 and 180 minutes or a detailed synopsis and plot. In addition the applicant must supply:
- A summary
- Theme/s
- Plot
- A list of character (with notes)
- Basic stage setting
Successful applicants will then receive staged payments of up to €2,000 leading to the handover of the script. Upon production of an agreed rehearsed reading and the handover of a proposed production schedule for 6 performances an additional €1,000 will be released.
All works must be unproduced and unfettered from publishing rights or previous agreements and must be the work of the applicant(s) who must either live and work in Waterford or who must originally be from Waterford. WC&CC reserves the right for first production and/or a production in 2020. WC&CC reserves the right to 2% of all royalties in perpetuity* and the right to publish the play as part of a compendium in 2016/17 and again in 2020. All other rights and royalties will remain the reserve of the author(s). Contact conornolan@waterfordcouncil.ie for any further clarifications.

New Play & Producer Application

A good example of a multidiscipline collaboration between a number of organisations leading to a unique special event/programme was the New Street Gardens ( a collaboration between artists, musicians, gardeners, social groups and the general community). ‘Waterford Sings” was also a good example (massed choirs, composers, poets and a major event).
Waterford City & County Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.
Collaboration Grant Application
Amateur Arts Production
This grant is to support the amateur/voluntary arts sector for which the public must be able to have access to performances/exhibitions and which fulfill the criteria as laid down in the guidelines. The grant favours original work and/or in-production learning through the employment of professional directors, choreographers, writers. The grant also favours extraordinary circumstances such as a three or four venue tour. It must have at least four performances excluding previews, rehearsals and charity nights.
There will be three grants of €1,000 (one per district) and one grant of €4000 for a unique programme (a recent example of this would the touring of a new work by Stage Mad to the Irish Arts Centre in New York).
Amateur Production Grant Application
Amateur Musical Production
This grant is to support an amateur/voluntary Musical Theatre production to which the public must be able to have access. It must fulfill the criteria as laid down in the guidelines. The grant will favour original work and preference will be given to a production that has a countywide remit. The grant is primarily for a production by adults. It must have at least four performances excluding previews, rehearsals and charity nights. Waterford City & County Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.
Amateur Musical Grant Application
Youth / Pre-professional production
A grant for a Theatre production either developed for and including youth or a theatre production by a new young pre-professional theatre company. The production must have a professional ethos, must be open for the public to purchase tickets and should have at least four performances excluding rehearsals and previews. Waterford City & County Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture. Preference will be given to a production that has a countywide remit.

Marching / Concert Band programme
The majority of the award will be on a competitive, but rotational basis to one of Waterford’s Marching/concert bands. Applying bands must have at least 12 public performances per year.Waterford City & County Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.

Concerts programme
This is aimed at formal concert providers (e.g. Waterford Music Club and the Symphony Club of Waterford). It’s on a competitive basis for a 12 month long programme. Waterford City & County Council is interested in a varied programme that includes both City and County. The Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.
Concerts Programme Grant Application
Arts in Health /Arts & Disability programme
This is aimed to provide an arts programme which is Arts in Health or Arts and Disability based. Specific projects must be identified for funding for this grant. Applicants from qualified arts therapists in conjunction with a hospital or medical facility will be considered under this scheme. The programme must have a professional ethos and source talent locally.

Arts Audience Development/Inclusion
The premise of this programme is to encourage people to get involved in the arts by inculcating a curiosity, an interest and appreciation of the arts. It is also an opportunity for established Arts Organisations to widen their practice base by producing one or more of the following initiatives.
Primary Schools Arts programme (exploring the arts)
Waterford City & County Council is aiming this programme at primary schools in Waterford. As this is part of a coordinated school’s programme, the application must also include a section that deals with, or explains the depth and context of the arts in everyday life. All artistic disciplines will be considered under this scheme. Preference will be given to a programme that covers as much of the county as possible. The Council understands that this grant is only one part of the package needed to support such a venture.

Publishing Purchase Scheme
This scheme is aimed to support writers by the purchasing of their publications and we also support the purchase of artistic CDs/DVDs . Purchases are used by the local authority to be made available to the public via our Library Services. They will also be used as presentations for prizes and as courtesy gifts of the local authority where appropriate.

Professional Development Grants
From 2015, Professional Development Grants were awarded under the ArtLinks Bursaries. For 2016 we are keeping with ArtLinks who provides professional development opportunities for emerging and professional artists in all disciplines. This initiative is in partnership with Carlow, Wexford, Kilkenny Local Authorities and the Arts Council. Waterford artists can register free of charge on www.artlinks.ie

Venues
Waterford City & County Council is proud of the quality of the venues it has helped develop. Whilst the primary focus of these buildings relates to performance and exhibition of finished work, the venue should also be a place where new work can originate. Funded venues tend to be places that have continuous staffing whether their performance/exhibition areas are open or not. Council grant-funded venues will be expected to maximise the use of scarce resources and to foster the development of new and accessible arts projects.
The Council invites applications from developed venues for artistic purposes. The application form is an MS Document.
