Ben Hennessy will offer insights into the stories, mythologies and process of his work and current exhibition at the Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan.
‘Ar shiúl leis na Sióga’, presents a selection of new and retrospective works by the Waterford-based artist and theatre maker, Ben Hennessy. As the title of this exhibition implies, much of the work on show has its roots deeply embedded within the otherworldly realm of spirits, myths, and fantasy. Hennessy’s work however is not a product of just mere dreams and chance but is conversely a rich visual narrative which draws upon his interrelated fascination of story-telling layered with metaphor, biography, and an acknowledge to the potential of the medium he chooses to utilise – whether that’s paint, charcoal, watercolour, or his work within theatre.
Hennessy lives and works in Annestown, as well from his studio with GOMA in Waterford. He studied at the Waterford School of Art, NCAD (Dublin) and at the San Francisco Academy of Art University. His first Solo exhibition was in 1981 and since then has exhibited in London, New York, San Francisco, Dublin, Waterford and around Ireland. His work is included in many public and private collections, including the Waterford Art Collection.
