Lismore Castle Arts, Fridays 3rd – 31st May & Fridays 6th September – 4th October 2019 at 10:30am – 12:30pm
Lismore Castle Arts are delighted to host two series of Art Classes for Under 5’s in May and September. In these creative, fun, process based sessions we will explore themes touched on by the artists in our current Palimpsest exhibition. Children, accompanied by a parent or guardian will explore various art materials and methods, such as charcoal, chalk pastel, print, sculpture and collage. Each week will include both free sensory play and a facilitated art session with Eilis O’Toole.
Workshops each week:
Week 1: Sculpture – Participants will explore reusing materials from the Gallery to create objects by cutting, tearing and assembling.
Week 2: Drawing – Using charcoal, chalk and other materials, participants will discover how scratching, rubbing with erasers, water and wax resists can create different marks.
Week 3: Print – Using organic and recycled materials to layer images and discover printmaking techniques. Weather permitting this session will take place in the Gardens.
Week 4: Paper – Recycling old paper, participants will be able to make their own handmade paper as well as layering different types of paper, repurposing old books and experimenting with transparencies to make collages.
Week 5: Self-Portraits and Collaborative Drawing – Combining ideas and techniques from the previous weeks, participants will create self-portraits and work together on a large layered drawing.
