Waterford Municipal Art Gallery, which will be moving into its new home at 31/ 32 O’Connell Street in the coming months have put out an open call for any pictures or memorabilia that people have about the building, which in the past has been home to the South East Assembly and also a bank. Arts Officer Conor Nolan has said that he planned to set up an “archival display” which would coincide with the opening of the gallery in June/ July.
“I’m specifically wondering also about when the building had an eastern-style clock tower mechanisms in the bank vault”, Conor said. “The building clearly has a fascinating story to tell and we would like to play a part in the telling of that story. If you come across anyone who would have stories about the building – or would have worked in it prior to the 80s – I’d love to record them.”
If you, or someone you know has some memories of the building, please contact Conor at conornolan@waterfordcouncil.ie
