Waterford Filmmaker Stephen Byrne founded the festival in 2007. The festivals objective is to add to Waterford’s arts and cultural scene, promoting local, national, and international filmmakers & writers but in particular independent film.
Waterford Film Festival is very excited to be back at Central Arts for this years event. For a 2nd year in a row the festival had a record breaking amount of submissions with filmmakers and writers sending in projects from over 30 countries worldwide.
The 13th Waterford Film Festival shall host an exciting lineup of short films with a diverse mix of genres & themes from many different filmmaking backgrounds. Screening of 55 films will occur over the course of the weekend, 33 films from Ireland (including 4 Waterford films) and 22 International films. Out of the 55 films screening, 23 of the films are either produced, directed and/or written by female filmmakers. Also included within the films selection is 16 films from debut/student filmmakers.
International film screenings during the weekend will include films from the UK, USA, Canada, Croatia, Vietnam, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Switzerland, China and New Zealand.
The festival will also be awarding 40 finalists from national and international writers in our screenplay competition. the overall winners of the film & screenplay competition will be announced on Sunday 24th November in Central Arts.
