“Yes, But Do You Care?” is a compelling audio-visual art piece that creatively reimagines the human right to make a bad decision, the ethics of family care-giving, and Irelandβs new capacity legislation.
Held in IMMAβs National Art Collection, this highly evocative and brave art piece spans the visuals of human body metaphor, moving across open-fields and the domestic, with a collaged sound-scape combining lived-life testimony and judicial readings. Visuals include a muscle-man bravado inside a kitchen, a man spinning with abandon in long grass, and a guy dancing under high rise flats. Tango and waltz combine with intimate shared stories of a silent scream and legal mumbo jumbo.
The artwork was made by acclaimed visual artist Marie Brett and included collaboration with renowned choreographer and dancer Philip Connaughton; many members of the Dementia Carers Campaign Network supported The Alzheimer Society of Ireland; and advisors in law, advocacy and human rights.
This event is part of a national tourΒ π π¦π΄,Β ππΆπ΅? which shares an opportunity for welcome conversation and interesting response at each venueβs different location. The tour was initiated and is being led by artist Marie Brett with the support of a number of arts, community and health-care organisations including The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and is principally funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle EalaΓon.
The artist Marie Brett will be present at the event and will talk intimately about making the work. This is an opportunity to view the powerful artwork and to hear the artist speak about how the piece was made, her motivation, inspiration and conceptual ideas as well as some behind-the-scenes happenings.
