POETRY DAY. TRAMORE LIBRARY

Tramore Library 1st May 2025 at 7 pm.

For their forthcoming Poetry Day performance at Tramore Library on May 1, Poet, Journalist and Author Peter Murphy and musical collaborators Johnny Fox and Dan Comerford will premiere work-in-progress from a forthcoming stage show, rejoicing under the (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) working title of Cursed Murphy – the Musical.

The performance will consist of the show’s first two acts, about a dozen new pieces written since last November, drawing on poetry, monologue and song, influenced by such diverse sources as lyric balladry, old school vaudeville, Brechtian theatre, torch song/chanson, Oscar Wilde, Jeanne Moreau, Burt Bacharach and Lou Reed.

Scheduled for its stage debut early next year, the work will mark a radical departure from the ensemble’s previous punk-poetry sojourns, investigating pre- and post-rock tributaries of word and sound, all stitched together by the evergreen themes of love, loss and the ever-rebellious heart.

This event is free, but booking is essential, to book your seat for the event contact Tramore Library, Tramore, County Waterford, on 051 849594.
