The revival of the modern Olympic Games by Pierre De Coubertin embodied the ideal of a marriage between ‘Art and Sport, Muscles and Mind’.

This exhibition features artists from the Waterford Art Collection who competed for Ireland in the Olympic Games from 1924-48 including:

Jack B. Yeats, Letitia Hamilton, Séan Keating, Mainie Jellett, Fr. Jack P. Hanlon, John Lavery and more. Also included is Olympic archival material including Ireland’s part of the Olympic Torch from the 2012 games in London, an Olympic medal and Music from Ireland’s Olympic entries.

The ground floor features contemporary responses to the Gallery’s call-out for Olympic spirit themes art including pieces by James Horan, Alison Lowry, Csilla Toldy, Dix Van Pham and a new portrait of John Treacy by award winning artist Sammy Kane.

Families are especially welcome.
