Join us at 3pm on Saturday 30 August to celebrate, ‘Gerhardt Gallagher: Bequest’.
Waterford City and County Council and the Waterford Arts Office are delighted to invite you to, ‘Gerhardt Gallagher: Bequest’, an exhibition featuring works recently donated to the Waterford Art Collection by the family of this prolific Waterford born artist.
Gerhardt Gallagher studied art in Waterford, NCAD, and later in Airfield House and Black Church Print Studios, Dublin. A renowned and dedicated Forester, Gerhardt’s visual art practice spanned over six decades, ranging from large-scale abstract paintings, exquisite prints and drawings, and candid observations, to detailed studies of nature – in particular of his beloved trees. His work has featured in numerous solo, two-person, and group exhibitions and can be found in the collections of the Arts Council, Waterford Art Collection, RTÉ and the Office of Public Works. Gerhardt’s parents, Roland and Lisa Gallagher, were also instrumental in the establishment of the Waterford Municipal Art Collection. A selection of Gerhardt’s etchings and aquatints featuring the Copper Coast and the South East has also recently been installed in Waterford City Hall. We are indebted and incredibly grateful to the generosity of Gerhardt and his family in donating this work to Waterford.
The day will also see the launch of, ‘Beneath the Layers’, an exhibition by Mór Artists Collective inspired by the historic wallpaper collection of Fota House.
