About David Begley
David Begley is a visual artist, writer, film-maker, botanical ink maker and arts educator based on the Wexford coast. He works through drawing, painting, print, video, and animation. His monotype prints have been selected for exhibitions at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, London; Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin; Contemporary Masters of Printmaking, Cork; Aberystwyth Printmakers, and Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno, Wales.
His artworks can be found in the public collections of Contemporary Irish Art Society, Environmental Protection Agency, Filmhouse, Irish National Teachers Organisation, the Office of Public Works, Wexford County Council, Wexford Vocational College. David has received Arts Council and Artlinks awards for his visual art and for creative writing. His animations and short films have been screened in galleries and film festivals in Ireland, UK, USA, Greece, France and Czech Republic.
About the workshop
Join artist David Begley for a day of drawing with charcoal. Participants will learn how to harvest and prepare wood for baking charcoal at home. Charcoals include ivy, vine, ash, cramp ball, cork, oak, willow, pine, and driftwood.
Participants explore mark making exercises and learn about tone, line, pattern, form, and volume, through drawing from imagination and from observation.
The workshop is limited to 10 places and all materials will be supplied. .
