‘Bernard van Geissen – Local Land’ – Exhibition reception, 28th March, 2-4pm.
Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan
All welcome.
Bernard notes, ‘Over the last couple of years, I have photographed local farmland, fields and meadows in County Waterford. Wide views with imposing mountains and dramatic skies provide the ideal backdrop for artistic interpretations by painters, poets and photographers alike.
While looking at the land around me I became particularly interested in the wide variety of grasses. Their ephemeral, intricate, and complex aesthetic provided me with an artistic challenge in trying to make sense of their myriad shapes, forms, textures and colours. The often chaotically overlapping features meant that I spent hours just looking at small patches of grass in the search for compositions that made sense. In this exhibition I show both colour and black and white photographs of grasses, farmland, and some expressionistic colour images of meadows.’
Lismore-based van Geissen has worked in commercial and fine art photography and his works can be found in Ireland and the Netherlands.
Come and see these fantastic photographs of local scenes around beautiful Waterford…and more!
Open until April 26th.
